Introducing the rainbow of talent that is Kitty Pink Stars,
Tell us about Kitty Pink Stars and your cartoon life in a real world ?
I daydream all the time…I live in my own world…I never feel that I fit in…But I like it that way…I am a cartoon character…I created myself that way…And this…well this is the real world!
I came from another planet…One day I will go home…BUT until then…my memories...my daydreams and my imagination will help me to create things that will make people smile!
I'm a contradiction…I'm sunshine AND thunder clouds…I make rainbows…I dream BIG!
Life is an adventure…Wanna come with me?
A contradiction…a candyfloss girl with a passion for cute…kawaii…toys…pink…kittens…a hamster named Ethel…candy…crafting…writing…doodling…the change of seasons…unicorns…rainbows…taking photographs…buttons and pom poms! But… It's not all cute and fluffy…because other big influences are my love of monsters under the bed…scary movies…wrestling…zombies…dinosaurs…sharks and adventures… My crazy imagination and vivid daydreams help me create all these things that come from the magical land inside my head…
Kittypinkstars' HAPPY ethos…Always believe in magic in the little everyday things around you..Think positive..The smile you give out comes back to you..Shoot for the stars..Create!
What where your first creative experiences ?
I grew up in creativity…My Nan was, without a doubt, the greatest creative influence in my life. I feel as though she is still with me. She inspired my love of colours, gardening, baking and most of all, my desire to make toys…She was a truly amazing woman in so many ways. Nan would make me and my brother a toy each for birthdays and christmas, one year she made me Norman, a knitted green fox in green dungarees and scarf. He was always my favourite, and still is, he sleeps by my pillow every night!
How did you grow in your creativity ?
I have always loved to make stuff, from a very early age! I also loved to doodle, but when I had my son Noah in 2011 it awakened that creative side to me that had been left unused for several years. I remembered how it felt to have a handmade toy from my Nan, and started to make them for my Noah! I started with my own breed of sock creatures after receiving the John Murphy stupid sock creatures book for Christmas in 2006. I then moves into a range of tiny art dolls inspired my my love of kawaii cartoons, with Kitty's lil girls and luchas. Before starting a range of giant pvc zombies in rainbow colours inspired by Care Bears. But in the last year I have moved on to my little line of plush Kitty's little puffs, rainbow coloured balls of fluff, inspired by my love of nature, colour, magic and Pokemon.
Any advice to fellow creatives out there ?
Just go for it.. Believe in yourself, find something that is YOU..Something that reflects your personality, something you can be completely passionate about and just run with it! A few months ago I would never have believed I would be selling my drawings. Now I get lots of custom doodle requests regularly! So never think you can't do it or that people won't be interested. Stick at it!
What are your future plans for KittyPinkstars ?
I want to make 'zines, cards and paper dolls in the near future and I will be doing a large plush piece for Plush You, and I will keep moving forward with my puffs. I have so many ideas for new creations, it's just so difficult finding the time!
